Livestock Guardian ... Yaks?!

A key element of our ranch operation.

Ever heard of livestock guardian yaks? The tame and cold-hardy yaks that you pet and brush everyday can also bond with your other grazing livestocks and guard them without the need to be kept in a barn or shelter! With their help, small animals on the ranch thrive in this wild alpine environment.

Our hobby ranch sits on the high plains of central Colorado with an elevation over 9500 ft, operated in a sustainable and traditional way.

One key thing we did to make all these happen is learning and practicing the yak training practices from our mentor — Leon Lux, who developed the yak training strategies by himself with his 12+ years of yak ranching. Through his teaching, we make deeper connections with our yaks, and their calm tempers enable them to become great guardian animals for the ranch.
